A man in Manatee County, Florida took the age-old excuse that “the dog ate my homework” to a new level.
A DUI suspect accused of leading deputies on a high-speed chase told authorities that his dog was the one behind the wheel.
Deputies began chasing Reliford Cooper III, 26, after catching him speeding. He fled, ran a stop sign, drove through two ditches, and then eventually crashed into a house.
While he was being handcuffed he told the deputies, _”I wasn’t driving that car. My dog was driving that car.”
The deputy who arrested him noted the smell of an alcoholic beverage and the odor of burnt marijuana.
No dog was found in Cooper’s vehicle.
A woman in Wildwood, Florida used a similar excuse earlier this year when she told the police to arrest her dog, not her, for driving erratically.
