Men Cited For Illegal Possession Of An Alligator
Agents with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries cited two men for being in possession of an alligator during the closed season.
59-year-old Barry Pedigo or Pensacola, Florida and 28-year-old Logan Madere of Westwego were cited in St. Mary Parish.
Agents say that Pedigo captured a 4 foot 8-inch alligator by hands at Burns Point Park in St. Mary. Pedigo was bitten several times during the process of capturing the alligator. The alligator was allegedly then killed by Madere.
Pedigo was taken to Lafayette General Hospital and was treated for moderate injuries.
According to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, harvesting an alligator during a closed season can bring a fin of $400 to $950, and land you in jail for up to 120 days.
Pedigo and Madere could face restitution totaling $375.80 for replacement of the alligator in question.
