Why Is Bail Important?
Why Is Bail Important?
Most people watch enough crime shows to know that bail works by releasing a defendant in exchange for money. The court holds the money until all proceedings and trials are complete, and then it is returned.
If you’ve never been in the position to need bail, you may find yourself wondering why it’s such an important part of our criminal justice system.
Simply put, bail exists because in our criminal justice system, you are innocent until proven guilty.
It can take weeks or even months for a trial to happen. Without bail, everyone who is arrested would have to wait in jail until their trial. This would prevent them from going to work and providing for their families, and living their normal life. That is not the way that an innocent person should be treated, and those in jail are innocent until proven guilty.
In many cases, people who are arrested are found entirely innocent, or are convicted of lesser crimes than their original charge. In some cases, the jail time required for being found guilty could be less than the time from the arrest to conviction.
At Mud Bug Bail Bonds, we believe that all people are innocent until proven guilty. We want to help you get out of jail, so you can start working on your defense.
